Have a 1991 626 GLX (Europena version) with a heater fan problem.
Only the last two seepds of the fan motor work - that is, settings 1 & 2 on the slide switch do not work, settings 3 & 4 do.

So, I know juice is going to the motor and the switch is working.
I've swapped the fan switch on the dash (twice) with no change.
I disassembled one of the switches and it looks fine.

I've swapped the actual fan motor out and still only speeds 3 & 4 are workig.

Question is: What is in between the switch and the motor that might be limiting the two lower fan speeds? Opinions?

Answer found ... turns out it is the fuse block betweent he fan speed swithc and the fan motor. The fuse has separate coils for the 4 speeds. The coil for spped two - whcih runs in series with speed 1 - is clearly burnt. That's why speeds 1 and 2 are gone.

Trouble now will be finding OEM part for a 15 year old Euro spec Mazda.

Actually what you found was the fan motor resistor which makes the various speeds. As the switch position is changed, a different combination of the coils is used to create varying voltage to cahnge the blower motor speed.
