Anyone have a interesting story about breaking in thier CX-5 on a trip or adventure ? We picked up an " America the Beautiful " All National Park Pass and are heading out to break in our new 2023 premium by hitting as many national parks as possible in the rest of the month. Starting with Yellowstone , Yosemitie , going south to Grand Canyon , Zion , Bryce etc and collecting the stickers.
Going to put the 2.5 NA to the test looking at driving around 5-7K miles. Should be interesting ! - Not towing anything and will be in an ever changing speed so it wont just be stuck at 70 mph on a straightaway .Any stories or accounts of your break-in driving or road trips would be appreciated!

After the first 300-500 miles it helps to run up to near redline occasionally. What many folks forget is that the breakin period is not just about the engine. The transmission needs to be broken in too, and it takes time for the brake pads to transfer enough material on to the rotors before the brakes work at their best (unless you bed them in yourself). Enjoy the trip!

I think it’d be tough to give the engine a full range of different rpms driving on the highway for the break-in purpose. Even if you drive between 50 (kind of dangerous at this low speed) ~ 80 mph, the engine rpm won’t change too much mainly around 3,000 rpm.

Back to the days a story I heard was a guy bought a new 1976 Ford Capri and the dealer had to get one from another dealer which is 500 miles away. Someone drove the brand-new car over only found the 2.8L V6 didn’t have enough oil from factory for some reason. The sad thing was it did cause some damage to the engine and the engine was consuming the oil after that.
