2016 CX-9 Apple car play upgrade not working

So I just installed the new hub to upgrade to Apple car play, my firmware is version 70.00.352 which by all accounts is new enough to accept the retrofit however I can’t get it to recognize. The phone does charge faster now but no car play prompts. I’ve searched high and low for all possible issues with installation or phone settings to no avail. Please help.

Sometimes the cord is the issue. Lighting ports are an old USB standard at this point and some of them just supply power without supplying the required data for CarPlay. Have you tried an MFi cord?

I used a genuine Apple cord as suggested.

Hi, having a similar issue with DIY installing the OEM retrofit carplay hub in my 2016 CX5. I swear I did everything as instructed, but it's not offering carplay. The new hub gets power to my iphone, but I noticed the USB1 and USB2 options are greyed out in my audio menu. OP, did you ever get yours to work?
