I'm really impressed that a lot of members came through to raise funds for the community. Unfortunately we did not achieve the original goal of a
"2006 Donation by 2006".
I'm not sure if I should continue this challenge but I can tell you the facts about our costs and future needs...
We're currently running the following setup:
For $299 ($320 with daily backup etc) per month we get...
* Dual 2.4GHz (maybe 2.8) Xeon
* 2GB RAM: included
* 1700GB / mo transfer limit: included
* 2 x 73 GB SCSI: included
* DRAC: included
What we need:
More RAM...going from 2 gigs to 4 would help a lot but that means about $400+ month (according to another Host)...Even though costs would go up...This deal is actually better than our current host can offer but that means time & effort in moving to a new server and of course increased monthly costs (at least $80 increase per month).
If your talking a serious hosting upgrade including CPU, RAM and HD setup plus relocation costs...Your looking at $500+ a month easy! Times that by 12 and I will be paying $6000 a year to keep you guys happy.
Now understand that these #'s are just for hosting. I'm not including our e-mail server, domain renewls, promotion costs, vBulletin fees, time & effort etc etc etc...
I have no problem with being upfront about costs...Because costs are what concerns this community. Please remember I have to pay to keep this site online...every day, every month and every year. Although donations are encouraged, members are not responsible for funding this site...I am and therefore non-donated funds are to remain private while donations can be represented.
We will have to upgrade soon...That is for certain...The question is...
How much money can we raise to ensure this community stays online for a long time AND
What is the best hosting deal we can get?
I founded this community over 4 years ago...It's a part of me and my life...I love what I do here...Making this an enjoyable and better place everyday...Trust that.
