'02 Turbo Protege 5 autocross/track car blown motor $4000

Since KrayzieFox can't read, 4000 with BLOWN MOTOR and one set of wheels.

As much as I love and enjoy this car, I am ready to move on to something else (bought an S2000). Let me make this clear: I do NOT want to part out. Some one is more than welcome to buy it and then do so, you'd probably make money that way but it is not worth the trouble for me

So anyway... on to the car! It is an '02 Black Mica Protege5. Currently has 72000 miles on it. I have title in hand, car is located in Des Moines Iowa. Quaife differential, new ACT clutch, new flywheel surface, new throwout and pilot bearing within the past 200 miles.

Stock injectors (might help with fuel related problems, but will need a retune)

Concerns on the car:
The AWRs are very, very stiff and loud. This can be fixed by sending them to AWR. They shorten the bodies so it doesn't shimmy.

The Microtech needs a better tune to make driveability favorable. The main problem is idling. When you are flogging it, the car drives great! :)

The car hates gas. It gets poor gas mileage, and doesn't like to fill up all the way. Some sort of evap system problem, can't figure it out.

Body has some dings, but no rust or major issues. No A/C. No cruise control.

Transmission occasionally comes out of 3rd and 4th gear easily. Doesn't happen all the time. Not sure what the deal is, but every thing appears to operate fine (been 200 miles since new transmission with Quaife has been in).

I'd let it go for $6k with only the Enkei wheels and no extra parts (clutch, cam, J&S, Hawk pads).

Also I believe I have the fuel filing problem fixed... I will know for sure once I get the car out of storage in the next couple weeks.
 
Well the motor is now blown. Rod went in cylinder two as far as I can tell... gotta tear it apart.

Willing to sell in broken state for a lower price :)
 
$4500 is as low as I can bring myself to. Any lower than that, I will just part it out myself.
 
spring is approaching... someone should buy this and fix it, or buy it and part it out and make some loot.
 
bump. $4000 for the whole thing with one set of wheels, you choose. I bought an S2000 and need to get rid of this.
 
any idea qhat you would want for those coilovers?

$1000 shipped. They make some noise, Tony at AWR told me that there is a tiny amount of play and you could have a delrin bushing put in to help alleviate that but I never bothered.

Nice! SBC RPF1s, Hot. What splitter is that? OEM lip? I want one and a hard top, but don't know how much I'd use the top. Top down baby!
 
Yeah I was able to score one of the few last sets of the SBCs. LOVE them. The lip is OEM and the splitter is the Coastal Metals AP2 splitter.

The hard top is nice, but definitely have some garage space for taking it off. You can keep the soft top installed and use the hardtop so you dont have to have hard top or no top :D

Good stuff, perhaps I can do those mods next year. What else have you done to yours? I'm pretty happy with mine, I'd like to replace the Bilsteins with a better set of coilovers at some point and do those aforementioned cosmetic mods. I'd love more HP but I think too much more would upset the balance of the car.

Stock diff or something else? And what does the master cylinder brace do?

Hmm... that's all that I can think of. I bought it this way and haven't wanted to change much yet. I added the bumper plugs, a Clarion CD player (need new speakers), and those plastic tubs you get from walmart that fit in the fake spare tire well. They are the best mod for the money IMO :D

oh yeah I have a MY00 front sway bar. Its a few mm thicker than our stocker and it was free lol

Mine came stock lol some old guy owned it haha. Seeing pics of it stock make me laugh.

The Honda ap2 lip really sets off the front of the car. A friend bought that got for me for helping him find an S lol
