I'm changing my rear pads but can't get the pistons to retract far enough to provide enough gap to seat on the rotors. The piston appears to move freely when I press the brake pedal. I've tried using a C-clamp to push it back, but it still is out about a 1/2 inch from the housing. I didn't unhook the emergency cable, but theres no tension on the cable so this shouldn't be holding anything back.
I've on multiple threads that the calipers go bad (2003 protege). If the caliper was bad would I not be able to depress the piston back in?
