Mazda 5 engine ticking... is this a time bomb?

it had the stock coolant temp gauge which doesnt give the temp but a needle moving across a bunch of tick marks, with red zone on the higher end. i did have the Torque android app running a few times connected to my OBD2 bluetooth dongle, during the summer. That gave me actual temp reading...

Mazda 5 engine ticking... is this a time bomb?

sorry folks. i threw in the towel. end of the road for my 5. i ended up taking it to the dealer to have it checked out. of course, you know what they said. it's rod-knock and i need a new engine. since my wife had been hankering for a new car anyway, i traded in my '06 5 with 103k miles...

Mazda 5 engine ticking... is this a time bomb?

thanks. how do you unplug the VVT actuator? i tried searching but came up empty. I did find a Mazda Service Bulletin #01-010-11.2 http://www.miata.net/garage/tsb/01-010-11.2.pdf that seems to describe my problem. The VVT Actuator appears to be a mechanical assembly attached to the intake...

Mazda 5 engine ticking... is this a time bomb?

I'm experiencing the same noise now on my 06 5MT. Got 103k miles. Changed belt tensioner as well as ran without AC belt so I know it's neither the compressor or belt tensioner components. It only happens at 2-3k RPM even standing at neutral. Can't tell if timing chain has slack without...

Heat, they're on Boston CL now for $400 including TPMS and decent tires. no bites. guess i'll have to wait a bit before getting my 16s.

    considering downsizing to 16" alloys

Heat, the color combo looks great on your 5. rodslinger, I found some specs "Rotarynews.com" posted on RX8Club.com that the stock 16" alloys are 16.3 lbs. This is a worthwhile option to consider to keep it looking stock. I still need to unload my rims first before I jump on anything. I dont...

    considering downsizing to 16" alloys

thx for the comments. i think i'll still go with the 16" Kosei's but pass on the LRR. not reading too much significant benefit from LRR. i can still get grippy non-LRR tires. since outside dia. will be maintained, i won't have much "dead cat zone". already dropped on H&R springs.

    considering downsizing to 16" alloys

LOL. Secondtyme, not sure what u mean by "dead cat zone", but I think the look will be like old school JDM. yep taller sidewall, softer and more cushy ride. Dinoco, yeah those Kosei's are the same ones! What kind of difference did they make? is launch quicker? mpg better? what tires did you...

    considering downsizing to 16" alloys

read somewhere 17" OEM wheel & tire weighs in at 44 lbs. 18" MS3 OEM wheel & tire weighs in at 48 lbs. wheels are 22 and 24 lbs. respectively. and difference in launch response was very noticeable. I came across some 16" alloys that weigh 12 lbs. assuming 205/55R16 tires might be around...

    AC compressor quit

my compressor clutch also has a bearing failure. rattling noise sounds like a diesel engine, when a/c is off. less noise with clutch engaged. my 5 has 89k miles. gonna have local shop swap in new compressor/clutch assembly. no time to do it myself. had to replace my alternator a month ago...

    Airbag light

i finally found some time to check the front crash sensor. after i disconnected the wiring from the sensor, one of the two pins on the sensor disintegrated from corrosion. i replaced the sensor and it cleared up the blinking airbag light. my 5 has 89k miles.

    Alternator going bad?

thanks all. it was a Saturday, and i didnt want to wait a week for the $95 alternator. so i went out and got a brand new Duralast Gold from Autozone which has a lifetime warranty. I did the swap the same day, took me a couple hours. All is good now. 13+ volts consistently whether at idle or...

    Alternator going bad?

I get a battery light in the dash flashing on sometimes during hard acceleration. On a recent trip to PA, the battery light would stay on if I cruise above 70mph. Autozone ran a test, and said my battery (2010) is good, alternator good, rectifier bad. I brought my 5 to dealer and they said...

I agree. Had the same problem with boots when I picked up my 5 right before winter. But I got used to it. now I can drive no problem with boots.

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

yeah, my all weather mats are all year round. i used to think the pedals were too close, coming from decades of driving Hondas. but I'm used to them now.

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Yes Mazdaspeed gas pedal sits a bit higher. It does seem a bit more responsive. (Wishful thinking?) I like it. Looks better too. Brake and clutch pedal covers have identical shape and dimensions. Brake cover has pattern for heel-toeing.
