Is the harness already wired for the protege? Does it tie into the factory sensors, or use its own?

Go record yourself doing a 0-60 or higher run and post it on youtube, then post a link here. A protege5 stock will get around 8.5-9 seconds depending on how fat your ass is. Check your coolant temp sensor connector to make sure its connected, and check the wires for cracks/shorts. The voltage coming from the sensor is too low for the ecu. It may be disconnected, broken or have a bad wire. As far as the multiple misfire, its probably caused by your egr being stuck...

Try and get a new dimmer switch. I think I had to get one, I cant remember

btw you definitely want to separate the illumination wires, and tape them off so they cant short out

Check your lights, I had a similar situation happen, and the taillights didnt work aswell. It blew a fuse because upon reinstalling my stereo in the dash. i pinched a wire shorting it out I believe it was a blue wire. This was over 3 years ago so im not sure. Brake lights and headlights worked...
