Anyone that has any interest in these parts, know what they are. The new bits are the rad hose, thermostat and the oil filters. Everything else has 150k miles on it.

    Mazdaspeed Protege OEM Exhaust

This is the OEM Racing Beat exhaust that came stock on the Mazdaspeed Protege. I bought it used from another forum member that claimed to have taken it off the car a month from bringing it home from the dealer. I ended up using another muffler so this one needs to go. $150. Pick up only (West...

FS: P5 OEM Wheels + Kuhmo Esctas AST Rubber

The tires (205/50/16) have about 2,000 miles on them. The wheels have about 100,000. They were only on the car in the summer months. But they have a few nicks and rubs like you'd find on any wheels of that age. One wheel has some very mild curb rash. These are off an 02 Protege 5 and are not the...

What else to replace while replacing Timing Belt ?

Given how much labor it takes to gain access to these parts, there is absolutely no reason to take a chance and save a few bucks. Buy the OEM stuff. A spark plug wire is a great part to try to buy on ebay... 10 sec swap if it fails. A timing belt on the other hand... NO WAY!

    Sad day for our P5

The jury is still out on the replacement car. My wife has a 160 mile commute 3 days a week, so reliability is terribly important to her. With MPG coming in 2nd and "fun to drive in close 3rd." I think the 6 09 got ruled out last night. We still have 2 cars to look at before she pulls the...

    Sad day for our P5

You're totally right. The body roll compared to the 3 hatch was pretty noticeable. And the i Sport gets no extra stopping power or HP over the 3 despite the extra weight. Did my wife put you up to this post?

    Sad day for our P5

I should have mentioned that in my 1st post, sorry. Thank God, no he lived. Broken bones and a couple of cuts. If I were in a truck or anything with a flat fronted grill, he would have definitely died.

    Sad day for our P5

Some kook on a bicycle tried to cross a major highway during rush hour. The absolutely crazy thing is that there are giant guardrails preventing anyone or anything from getting over the median to actually cross the highway. I was in the left lane, the car next to me was a length in front and...

    Possible fuel pump problem?

There is no inline fuel filter on the P5. The noise from the pump suggests its a fuel supply or return issue. I would take it to a shop and have them test the fuel system. I wonder if its a blockage in the return line. Someone recently reported that as an issue on their car.

    Urg!!!!

The kit is the SAME EXACT stuff that your tire store uses. You have no idea of the prev owner followed the instrux properly. You need to ream the hole well and most important of all -- use the vulcanizing glue on the plug.

    Urg!!!!

Get a tire repair kit ($10) and a cig lighter powered air compressor at Walmart ($12). Except for those rare times when the tire deflates entirely and separates from the wheel, one of these kits will do the trick. I've had to use my twice and both times I plugged the tire with it still on the car!!!

Need some help with Brake problem

I am pretty certain that the e-brake has its own caliper on the Protege. Can anyone confirm this?

Protege 5 engine running rough despite repairs

A CEL will never "stay bad" (lit) after you disconnect the battery and cut power to the ECU. Depending on what condition caused the CEL, it might take several miles (or up to 3(i think) trips) for the CEL to come back on. Get the code read!!

Overfilling oil can clog a brand new EGR valve

Hosed? Hardly! They spent 6+ hours chasing this down (I kept telling them the EGR was brand new so they didn't check it) but they only charged me for 1.5 hours labor. The car runs like a top (new MAF might have helped this) and my wife is pleased as punch!! Feel free to call the stealership and...

Overfilling oil can clog a brand new EGR valve

I put about a quart and a half too much oil in my P5 by mistake. It was parked on a bit more of an incline than I had thought and I guess there was a bunch left in the oil pan when I put the plug back in and pour 4 quarts in. According to the stealership, it was just enough of an overfill for...
