Fun thread. Mine is a 2004 Mazda 6 2.0 touring and it has 225k km on the clock. If I've understood the conversion to miles correctly that's 140k miles. Here in Sweden cars are *always* sold with reference to how many "Swedish miles" they have travelled. A Swedish mile is 10km (crazy I know)...

Any car with 170k km on the clock is going to be risky, the Mazda is no different. The best policy is to get someone who knows cars to check it over carefully. Good luck

Probably too late to help you, but might help someone in future. Mazda 6's appear to suffer with corrosion to the pivot pin on the tailgate release, so often start to stick like this. Part number D35062410B can be had for around 20 US dollars on eBay, plus shipping from Japan. Or sourced more...

Thanks to the OP and all who have contributed. I've used this info today to convert my 2004 non-Bose Mazda 6 touring to have an aux input using buba's blank CD method with Dragan's trick of soldering direct to the PCB. Reminder - do not try to short pin 13 on the back of the radio on a pre-2006...
