    Mazda 5 Mazda 3 engine swap 2.0 L into 2.3 L

Check the intake cam for the cog used for timing or crank/cam position. It's on one if the cams and it could be different than the 2.3. I know there was a change from the 2.3 to the 2.5, but unsure of the 2.0 to 2.3. Good luck!

    Metallic sound when releasing brakes

Weird places to look/check. Engine mounts for drivetrain movement when the brakes are released (does it clunk louder with quick release from hard braking?) Suspension bushing deterioration in lower control arms Ball joint deterioration Caliper slider pins greased? Caliper bracket bolts...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

I think a 2.5 will be fairly easy to source. The turbo stuff, however, is looking to be a little more troublesome. I think the MS3 exhaust manifold will fit, but I'd want to put a different flange on there. I think a gt2560 or similar would be perfect. Quick spool, 200-250 whp (hopefully the...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Finalized my "stock" brake setup today. Got stainless lines put out back ... The flare wrench didn't do anything except mangle the hardline nut, just like other here have noted. A blast of pb blaster and big vice grips made short work of the hardline nuts on both sides. The passenger side...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

The mazdaspeed3 seats are at least "bolt in" ... My rx8 seats were completely custom. I'm not sure if the rx8 came in tan cloth, but tan and tan/black leather was offered.

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Had a weird vibe from the brakes today and saw a remnant if pad material on the rotor, so everything came out and the rotor faces were sanded smooth. Also tried the stock wheels without the spacer and they clear the mazdaspeed3 calipers, but it's REALLY close to that retainer clip (the wheel...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

I'm using the standard centric rotors. I had the HPS's on my old supercharged IS300 and they were a nice street pad. I don't think I'll be going to another pad right now, the ones in there now are terrific. When it comes time to replace them or I magically get more power, I'll look into a...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

I'm not comfortable with the wheels being that close to the retaining clip, but if it was just the bracket/caliper, I'd take a grinder to the face of it and call it a day. The HP+'s are one of my all-time favorites, but now that I'm older, I guess the squeaking was just obnoxious. I'll hold on...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Lol, I can't leave this car alone. I developed a strange binding issue after coming to a complete stop. The passenger front caliper wouldn't release fully. The Hawks werealso squeaky as sin, so I ripped everything apart again, relubed the calipers, didn't find anything wrong, and replaced the...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Well a rear swaybar would be discreet and makes a ton of difference in handling. In my opinion, the rear sway bar and the brakes really shrank it down in the way it feels.

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

I had more than 6 threads of engagement before i torqued them with the stock studs. I'd guess 7 threads after all is said and done. From my previous experience, it's enough for proper clamping. I'll retorque the wheels today (100+ miles already) and see how everything is looking in there, but...

Mazdaspeed 3 MS3 brake upgrade: stock wheel clearance

Tonight I finished the mazdaspeed3 front brake upgrade and I wanted to make a few points about it. Parts used: Rock auto refurbished calipers (FoMoCo stamp) Stainless lines Hawk HP+ pads 3mm hubcentric spacers - It's easy and affordable-ish - the braking performance is phenomenal - flush...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

These arrived yesterday. Mazdaspeed3 brake swap is almost complete. I'll be running stainless steel lines up front. Hawk HP+ pads are coming on Tuesday, so expect pictures of the install shortly thereafter. I'm planning on running stock wheels with a spacer, so we'll see how much it...

Help a Med Student Dad of 3

In my experience, any solid-face rotor (no slots or holes) works well for anything from everyday driving to light track use. I just bought Centric rotors from rockauto.com and paired them up with Hawk brake pads. I chose their hp+ pads, but the hps pads give decent bite and feel without the...
