Posting this link here FYI: http://germansell.de/gs/index.php?cPath=36_204 Is anyone familiar with these roof rails specifically made for the European version of the car?
Hi, suppose there is nothing else to do than to accept this flaw. Will post here if something new turns up. If I ever get around to it I may try to add some sound insulation in order to muffle this noise to some extent.
Fixed! Finally the official fix from Mazda was installed on my car this morning. According to the dealer the control unit ("computer") for the back-up sensor and scbs systems was replaced and software updated. So far everything works, i.e. the SCBS malfunction warning has disappeared.
The ticking is still present and getting a bit louder again. I am now leaning towards a different explanation from the previously suggested fuel injectors. Think this may well be valve/lifter tick that becomes more audible when the engine oil has become warm and thinner. Has anyone here tried a...
Hi Pius, sorry to hear that the noise problem still persists. What about the creaking brake noise that you mentioned in your first post of this thread? Is it still there or did you find a solution in the meantime? Mine also has it and I find it irritating.
Good luck with the drilling project. I find it too risky for a new car. According to the German CX5 forum, that involves removal of the ceiling lining and some more of the interior moulded parts as well as adding some bracket for stability. But maybe all that is not totally necessary.
In the...
FYI - These are the only aftermarket roof rails that I have been able to find that are made for the European version CX5 Mazda (but I have not tried them myself):

I also like the US type roof rails but as you know I am sure, they...
Hi, have not got any further feedback from Mazda, other than already mentioned in my last post. The situation with my own car is still as reported , i.e., the noise has faded and I do not see a reason to complain if it stays as it is at present.
Had the car inspected by the dealer today for a possible cause of the pinging noises. As expected, nothing was found. But as already mentioned, the noise has faded so much that it is barely a cause for a complaint as it stands at present. But the dealer told me it was a good thing to have the...
I should add that according to this German forum, people are more or less in the same situation as here. One guy has obviously gone through the speedometer removal process with the same unacceptable result as described earlier by donnielund here. Another one claims to have had the problem...
I am experiencing something similar with my car. The noise seems to be fading. Also had the same thoughts that it might have something to do with the colder weather. But I have not been able to test this fully because I mostly do short trips too.
Hi limleong,
I will certainly keep updating here if there is any progress. Assuming you will do the same if you learn anything more about the nature of the fix you got on your car.
DR_Watson and others. Here is a short clip that I made with an iPhone in an attempt to record the pinging/tinkling sound. It is not very clear in the recording but I can hear it because I know what I am looking for. I was driving slowly and the pinging can be best detected when releasing the...
Thanks for the report. But, Wow, this is not reassuring. I think it is about time to get some answers from Mazda EU headoffice or Japan on this one. My local dealer seems pretty serious about this and still claims that there is no fix yet from Mazda.
Thanks limleong. You could try placing some empty carton boxes behind the car and back up to them and see if the car stops:) (NB: I have not tried this)
Good to hear. Hopefully a solution. I am surprised though how long it is taking Mazda to offer a solution in Europe, considering the fact that the matter happears to have been solved in NZ some time ago.
Just a thought on the issue here (I am not a mechanic or engineer). I have been reading here and there and understood that the Cetane value of the diesel fuel can affect the timing of the ignition or burn of the fuel and therefore on the resulting noise too. Got the information that the fuel I...
