Yeah I'm not the first owner. Pretty weird that the cable was misrouted, but I'm glad I was able to get it fixed.

I managed to fix it. The cable wasn't routed correctly from the air temp switch and therefore didn't sit in the clamp in a natural position. I had to pull the cable, route it correctly and now it sits in the clamp and works just fine. Lots of work and swearing though haha!

I checked the timing belt and the timing marks were definitely not right, so I took it off and made sure all the marks aligned, so far it's been two days and no more P0301, before this it was shooting the code every time I drove it so I think it's all good and the car runs better now.
