I am taking the car to a local bodyshop where a buddy works. His response was similar to what somebody suggested: blend and mix a red paint hue similar to the Soul Red Mica and touch up. I'll post pics once this has been taken care of and report back on the quality of work!

Absolutely! Luckily I do have a contact in the professional autobody & paint domain. I think this is far beyond what a dinky touch-up paint stick can handle. He should be able to match the color, I take it?

I am totally convinced with the OEM Mazda hood deflector! Just placed an order for one from "swagparts" on eBay. $54 + USPS shipping to Canada ($38). I had a hood deflctor on my daily driver Honda and it saved its paint (hood tip) and windshield multiple times from rocks and debris.

When do you suppose Mazda will recognize and release a recall or Technical service bulletin associated to the obviously flawed windshield glass? Thanks for the advice, guys! Yeah, I've always been skeptical about the vinyl bras, even if it's just for long distance trips. I think I'll go with the stylish hood deflector + painter's tape. Since it's a leased car, I don't think I'll invest in the 3M clear bra.
