The Age Old Question, What Size?

My car is lightened by about 100 lbs. I am running 15x7 rims with 195 Star Specs. street and track. Good results, handle day to day conditions well and break away and slide very controllably on the track.

Thinking of buying an old miata

I also own a Mazda 2, though mine has numerous mods and I agree it is great fun to drive. I use it as a DD and a track car, and I often think how unfortunate it is that Americans are so absolutely obsessed with big power that they completely dismiss these small nimble cars. As professional...

CS or Hawk pads for spirited DD/potentially future AutoX? What about shoes?

My 2 is my daily driver - had it's first track outing 2 1/2 weeks ago. Hawk HP plus, braided front lines, RBF 600 fluid, 15x7 rims with 195/50 Z2 tires, superb combination. This was my first time at Thompson and as I had not done any track time in several years I requested an instructor, with no...

    Air Box Delete......

Well yes, the manufacture has to transition from the chassis to the engine but those harnesses are designed from the start for that purpose. In the case of moving the ECU the movement is the stress. I am not saying failure is certain only that the potential is there. After 40 years of vehicle...

    Air Box Delete......

Yes, that is my point, the engine moves a lot and the battery box does not move. My concern is not for the ECU but the wire connections at the plug. In stock form there is no movement as the ECU moves right along with the engine. Move the ECU off the engine and the harness has to flex, the wires...

    Air Box Delete......

There is some potential for long term problems with the battery box mounting method. With the OEM set up the ECU and wiring harness are secured to the engine, so there is little to no relative movement. The battery box does not move with the engine forcing the short section of harness to flex...

How to Replace Spark Plugs (for Dummies)

A torque wrench is a good idea as over or under torqueing the plugs can change their heat range.

Ballistic battery in a daily driver

My 2 is my daily driver - installed a 3.5 lb. Ballistic battery 1 1/2 years ago, never fails to start but is marginal below about 20 degrees. When the temp. is below about 15 or 20 degrees I have to crank, stop wait, crank again, sometimes for 5 or 6 cycles. Above those temps. it works...

Splash shield added to Corksport skid tray

The 2 is my daily driver, though it will probably see some track time, and living in upstate NY I was looking to keep the engine and trans reasonably clean. opened the hood today and it looks pretty good. Skid tray and splash shield will be removed for warm weather use.

    Defective ABS?

Very difficult to diagnose over internet but I would suggest checking for a bad front wheel bearing. Several things will occur if the wheel bearing is loose. 1- noise 2- ABS sensor distance varies or the sensor is damaged 3- wobbling front rotor kicks the pads back and the master cylinder does...

    Big battery in little Mazda

The Ballistic battery accepts brass adapters which are secured with the 6mm top bolt in photos. Your OEM terminal clamps will work without modification. I have the 3.5 lb Ballistic in the 2 and a 4.5 lithium from another manufacturer in my 3. The Ballistic was easier to install and so far has...

    OEM Brakes for track?

Have not had the 2 on track yet but I ran stock pads on my Accent ( similar weight and power ) at NHMS, completely destroyed the pads, brakes smoking and ended my day. Porterfield cut me some pads and I never had another problem regardless of how many laps I ran.

    A few racing questions

If you search this forum about 5 to 6 months ago I posted photos of a lightweight battery install, brackets to remove the lower air box and carbon fiber plates to widen the pedals, I am still adjusting the shape and height of the brake pedal but throttle extension remains as in photo. Will post...
