    New 2017 CX-5 Revealed

To Kaps: This is why some folks don't like to contribute to a board like this. I make a perfectly reasonable observation, based on my own experience hauling around lots of stuff for work, and this reply is the result. I happen to find the power liftgate to be a great option for me. Maybe it...

    New 2017 CX-5 Revealed

Want a power lift gate. Here is where a power lift gate is very handy: Picture hauling around boxes and bags, some paper or cardboard, during a rainstorm that need to be stowed in the cargo area. Without a power liftgate, where do you place your items to free up your hand to open the...

Comparing my 2016 GT to my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk

We picked up a new 2016 Jeep Renegade over a month ago, and we already have 3000 miles on the clock. So far, we've had no reliability issues. I have to say that I am very impressed with initial quality, with fit and finish being top notch and the vehicle seems very solid and well constructed...

    Consumer reports talks AWD

I guess only time will tell for sure, but Michelin makes this claim: The MICHELIN X-Ice Xi3 tire provides winter performance that lasts for 40,000 miles 1 with Michelin MaxTouch Construction which features a unique contact patch shape--maximizing even and longer tread life. As one of the only...

    Consumer reports talks AWD

Of course, it areas with little snow, the risk/reward proposition may not make sense. Since I live on a steep north facing mountainside above 3,500, we have lots of snowy and icy mornings that make winter tires very desirable. Although last year was mild, we've had winters with 60 inches of...

    Consumer reports talks AWD

If you look at the total cost over the long term, you really aren't just spending $600 on winter tires; you are actually purchasing additional tire mileage that can also helpful in the winter months. If you purchase the Michelin Ice with the 40K mileage warranty and you run them for several...

Regular Maintenance at Dealer or Independent?

Then there are the independent shops that specialize in one or two makes only. I take my Volvo to the dealer, since maintenance is free during the initial warranty, but I take my VW to an independent that works exclusively on Volvo, Audi and VW. I feel like I am getting a better value there...

Consumer Reports finds some newer cars burn too much oil

I was one of those reporting my experience with the Outback 3.6 oil consumption issue. It is always great to get some objective backup! I do see the Volvo XC60 listed. I have not had a problem with my V60 EcoDrive yes, so hopefully it is with the older engine designs.

    The Subaru Outback Wins

I've owned a CX-5 for three years, and my mother owns a 2012 Outback 3.6, so I think I can make a contribution. While the CX-5 feels light and more maneuverable, the Outback feels like a much heavier vehicle and handling, while very secure, is not up to par with the CX-5. The 2012 has a...

What mileage did you replace which parts. Please share

Had to change the rear brakes about 38,000 miles due to corrosion. Other than that, just tires and air filter.

Fit and finish on new cx-5

I admire having such a balanced approach to life! You are still keeping your vehicle in great condition and not worrying about the tiny imperfections that only you notice and care about. I just purchased a vehicle with $3000 miles on it, and had to really look hard to find the faults. I did...

    Said goodbye to my CX-5!

This has been quite a lively and informative discussion! Here are a few thoughts of mine. The wagon vs. SUV vs. hatchback issue: Although this is classified as a wagon, one could argue that it looks like an elongated hatchback, due to the placement of the real wheels. There is a CX version...

    Said goodbye to my CX-5!

Yes, I was specifically wanting a wagon to take advantage of efficiency, driving characteristic plus the added cargo space vs a sedan. I've had CUVs for 9 years and really wanted to have the car-like experience. This V60 was wholly designed and built in Goteburg, Sweden. I realize the holding...

    Said goodbye to my CX-5!

Mine was manufactured in Gothenburg, Sweden. I love this, as my ancestors are from that area of Sweden, and I have family members there. On a visit in 2000, I recall seeing the huge parking lots filled with Volvos being loaded into container ships in the harbor. I guess I feel some type of...

    Said goodbye to my CX-5!

I'll post some soon! Just achieved 38 mpg on the trip into work this morning! There is an eco-mode feature that adjusts climate control and gearing that is very nice on the highway. When more available power is needed, just go into regular Drive, or go into Sport mode.

    Said goodbye to my CX-5!

Thanks for the heads up! Fortunately, this car's appearance was mint, apparently sold by a dealer. My guess is that this 2015 loaner/demo needed to go to make room for the 2015.5.

    Said goodbye to my CX-5!

After about 70,000 miles in a CX-5, I was ready for something different. I really enjoyed the vehicle; it was reliable, economical and really fun to drive. In the end, I wanted a bit more luxury and power with excellent fuel economy while maintaining utility and the "fun to drive" quality, so I...
