Help with fuel smell. Found source. What is this?

The past week I've been smelling a slight amount of fresh fuel. Finally found it today. When the car is running, it's coming out of this canister from the rear. I can see the vapor coming out of it at idle. What is this part? It's the silver/zinc looking part which has like 1" hose coming in and...

Overheating... boiling over expansion tank... help

Found it... pressure testing today could not get a seal on filler neck. The plunger seat was 1/2 missing!! Allowing pressurized coolant to blow into the overflow. New rad going in tomorrow. You will see some grit in there from the nasty gas station spigot. I did not put bar stop crap in here...

Overheating... boiling over expansion tank... help

I hope the antifreeze smell I have lingering under the hood is just from all the dang boil overs. If it is the radiator, I can' see how that would boil it over unless its opening up at interstate speeds and leaking. I will try a cap, as that's an easy thing to throw at it.

Overheating... boiling over expansion tank... help

No smell of exhaust or carbon/oily look either. I guess I could try another cap. NO steamy exhaust. See, I am with you guys. I am suspicious over this $5 auto zone cap. It feels crumby thin and cheaply made. the dealer had a backorder time of 3 weeks.

Overheating... boiling over expansion tank... help

140,000 miles. New belt and pump 15k ago. Automatic P5. It's been super duper reliable. About 2 months ago, on the interstate and noticed the temp climbing, I bolted off into a gas station. It was hot by this point, but not steaming over. I went inside and bought a gallon of water. I let it...

    Changing ABS Sensor

I need to change the left rear(drivers) on my P5. What all needs to come loose? All the trunk panels? I'm confused as to how it disconnects. Where inside the car?

Help!!! What's happening? Flashing check engine

Hi there.. I did not notice there was a page 2. How big of a chore is it to pull the EGR? I have NOT done it, but I hear it needs to be cleaned and they clog on these little cars... I am mechanically inclined and have worked on cars all my life. But it's funny how the older I get and the busier...

Interior Fan Noise Changes With Throttle Input

I am having a similar issue... a whistle/buzz/whine at 1/2 or more power... it sounds like a fan, but it seems to be coming from the intake instead...

Help!!! What's happening? Flashing check engine

OK... back in town.. picked up the trusty P5 Auto from a reputable shop. New Timing Belt, new water pump, tensioner, etc. He said it had a bad coil and the plugs were the wrong heat range. Starts and runs great, and as I was driving away from the shop, dipping into about 1/2 throttle... that...

Help!!! What's happening? Flashing check engine

2003- with 129,000. Automatic. So last week the check engine light came on out of nowhere. Strange. It came and went over a few days. Today, I was on the interstate and the light began to flash, and the car lost most power and would only go about 30 mph. Once I pulled off the ramp, it would...

    Mazda3 wheels on stock P5? 215/50/17 fit?

I would rather have a 45 or 40 series sidewall but the tires are new. But if they won't fit, I won't buy the wheels. It's 4 mint Mazda 3 wheels (17" 5 spoke) with 4 new continentals for $500. Sound reasonable to me. I do know the speedo will be off, etc. I'm ok with that.

    Mazda3 wheels on stock P5? 215/50/17 fit?

I have seen quite a few suggestions of tire sizes that work with lowered P5's, but not with stock. I found a set of Mazda 3(5 spoke) wheels with 215/50/17 tires on them. The tires have 3,000 miles on them. It's a good deal $$ if they will clear everything and work. If not, I will move on and...
