I would think that their main motivation for having a stripped down manual Sport is so that they can advertise a "starting at" price that is low. From a consumer's point of view, it allows those that can't afford all the bells and whistles a chance to own what appears to be a luxury model.

I just wrote to them as well...maybe being a potential buyer of the CX-5 might carry a bit more weight? I also asked them about the cup holders and the dash rattles.
Does the EPA test the vehicles themselves or do they just take the automakers word for it? Seems that if they were truly independently tested, we wouldn't see the errors for American companies. Seems suspicious.
