there is a shop that offers that service here in the philippines but the cost of flashing is the same as adding a unichip. difference is that you need to reflash every time you want to change the tuning so just getting a standalone or piggyback is much more cost effective

What do you mean, niky? According to the Protege FAQ, the FS-ZE uses distributorless ignition like the FS-DE and the rest of the 3rd gen engines.

what is the part number for that celica maf? and could you take a picture of it? i'd like to see if that part is available here. if the corolla or some other toyota car uses it then i can probably buy one for cheap and try it out myself.

take it to the dealer in my part of the world, we've had problems a bit similar to that caused by the camshaft position sensor dying or the coilpacks.
