it appears that the #3 has carbon buildup, indicating that #3 injector could be leaking. have a shop perform the fuel injector cleaning service (usually costs somewhere around $70, but well worth it) and try to use a gas station that sells top-tier gasoline to keep it clean.

The amount of mods that have to be done are cost prohibitive. Massive work to accomodate the rear driveline and driveshaft. It can be done, just cheaper to buy one from overseas.

Be prepared for the cost of maintenance of the 128 or 135. My friend bought a used 3-series and was shocked at the $100 oil changes. BMW-approved oils are only ones acceptable, others void warranty. Just a thought.

Check for a loose wheel weight. I had a friend that had me do his bearings on a S-10 just to find out that it was a loose weight on the outside of the wheel. It wasn't loose enough to fall off the rim, but it would tick just like you described.

Just FYI: The rotor pictured on your driver side front is for the passenger side. The slots are pointing in the wrong direction. This might cause problems if you are planning to do any kind of performance driving.

You could do yourself a favor and get a MAPP/oxygen torch for the occasional use if you don't plan on doing any welding. It can save your ass and they are relatively cheap. Home Depot sells them for around $50. I had to use heat on one of the same nuts last weekend.
