A friend got it as part of a deal on a trade with a CJ. Drove it a short while. One day it started smoking, stalled and cranks. He was going to 5.0 swap it, but is now moving. He's got plenty of other projects and wanted to know of I wanted it. He knows I'm a Mazda enthusiast and I'll get it running.

I'm unsure as to what I may do with it. It's an automatic, so that kills it for me, but is easily enough swapped over for relatively cheap. It will go one of two ways- fix it up to sell, or go full-on race car.

Conversion from Autocross Spec to Hill Climb Spec has officially commenced.

Got the diff in last night, axles and prop shaft will go back in today / tonight. Then the rest of it is pretty small / quick safety stuff for HC. Seat back brace, covering the stock floor drain holes with tape to keep fire out, etc.

Since I had to pull the exhaust to do the diff anyway, I figured I should put on the Loud Pipe and sing the mountain the song of my people (BRAAP!)
I forgot I'd used it to test the paint for the rollcage, so I have gone ahead and wire-wheeled it clean. The red paint on it is NOT high-temp stuff, and I'd have been smelling burning paint all weekend. No thanks.

And since 90% of being smart is knowing what you're dumb at (in my case, forgetting stuff), I figured I should leave myself a reminder over the starter button:

It's an automatic, so it has 9:1 compression instead of 9.4:1, making auto pistons a low-cost favorite to boost! Your path is clear. Also, 5 spd transmissions aren't very expensive. I'm sure you can make it happen.

Installed the RS4's but been raining or cold so can't really see how they are. Changed the tranny fluid and oil and brake fluid change are next.

For those not following along on facebook:

Rolled it off the trailer, set a new Personal Best, broke the class record 3 different times, in the end smashed it by ~2.8 seconds from what it was prior to this weekend, had a celebratory beer and rolled it onto the trailer. F**king epic weekend

Ended up 8th overall, but not bad for a junkyard naturally aspirated 4-banger. Always nice to get on the leaderboard regardless. There was a period during the rain at the start of the event where I was 2nd overall behind the Focus RS
