I agree.$45k is a lot for a Mazda. I'd likely spend it elsewhere.
It has a 6-speed. With 310lb of torque on tap, it doesn't really need any more gears, to be honest. Insta-torque, no waiting for downshifting.
My cx-5 has the same torque, it could definatly use at least one more gear for motorway driving.

With OEM Toyo A23 225/55R19 tires on GT, it's 720 revolutions per mile. So driving at 70 mph it's 2,176 / 2,327 rpm for CX-5 2.5L AT FWD / AWD GT in 6th gear. Now I finally realized part of reason why CX-5 AWD suffers huge fuel economy drop than the FWD on the highway because it revs higher at the same speed!

With OEM Falken ZIEX CT50 A/S 255/50R20 tires, it's 694 revolutions per mile. So driving at 70 mph it's 2,143 rpm for the CX-9 Signature AWD in 6th gear, about the same rpm as CX-5 FWD.
Of course you have SkyActiv-D 2.2L diesel and your gear ratios could be different. I also prefer more than 6 gears if possible.

- True HUD
- 53 LBS of sound deadening material
- acoustic glass
- 2.5L Turbo
Of course this is at $45k pricetag. I wonder if these features will come to the CX5?

That is a nice looking car! But I'm going through building one and there are still many basic things you have to buy in an extra package. For instance heated seats, are in a $1400 package. Of course it comes with some other nicer things but just to get heated seats, you have to spend more. LED headlights, are part of a $1900 package. Standard on the CX-9.
My point I'm making here is the Touring CX9 starts at $35000. And it comes with many more high tech features STANDARD than the FPace. But that's usually the issues with luxury vehicles anyway. They still sell vehicles with halogen headlights. No luxury car should be equipped with halogen headlights imo.
I will say though, the FPace is a stunning car. If I could load that up and take one, I would in a heart beat.
