I have the first NB 98 model. Was the model on the american market that year?

Any pics? As rx7 stated, we weren't fortunate to get the "98" model.

in a similar fashion there was no 1984 corvette - it just went from 1983 to 1985 IIRC

Holy hell...

A) 39,000 USD? that's frikken nuts! they're about 22,000 her back then!

B) 1.6? We have not had a 1.6L Miata in the US since 93. All 94+ cars have been 1.8L (granted we don't get taxed on displacement)

C) what all in in the center colsole in those pictures? It isn't liek what we got here.. The HVAC looks the same, but the part below is different and teh part above the head unit is different as well..

D) As Far as why there was no MY98 Miata in the US? Not sure... Probably due to sticky US laws on model year designations and maybe extra delays on emissions or crash testing? The 1.8L cars started with 155hp here and then they had to withdrawl their specs back to 142hp.. maybe that had something to do with it? (although.. I think that was in 2000?)

European model designations are sane, totally unlike the North American marketing schemes, which have automakers releasing models 9-11 months ahead of an actual year.

Just as the NA Miata was officially on sale in July 1989 (as a 1990 model), the NB Miata came out in May 1998 as a 1999 model. In Europe, the NB was sold as a 1998.

As to displacement, the 1.6L B6 engined MX-5s have always remained available in Europe, Australasia, and Japan...in both 1994-97 NA models and 1998-2005 NB models, sold alongside the larger 1.8L BP engined MX-5s of those same years. It's taxes... Mazda offers a wide range of engines outside of North America.

As to the ascertation that NB Miatas were 155bhp, the 1999-2000 models were 140bhp. The 155 came with the introduction of SVT (Sequential Valve Timing) on the 2001 model, but was reduced to 142bhp, where it remains for the BP engine in naturally aspirated form (the 2004 & 2005 Mazdaspeed cars with their turbos bump that up).

How much do the European B6 DOHC powerplants differ from the US 90-93 US types? If you could provide any pictures of the engine bay, that would be good too.

B6 1990-1993 a 104/6000 135/4000 78 x 84 1598 9.0:1
BP 1994-1997 131/6500 152/5000 83 x 85 1840 9.0:1
B6 1995-1997 90/6000 129/4000 78 x 84 1598 9.0:1
B6 1998-2000 110/6500 134/5000 78 x 84 1598 9.4:1

In the center console u see the ashtray, 2 window opener? rear fog light switch and the justable headlamp switch and of course the ligther.
What is HVAC? What do u have in teh center console?

Top slot: CD Player
Middle slot: empty compartment
Bottom slot: HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) controls
Lower panel: Passenger airbag disable and 12V power receptacle

The window controls are on the transmission tunnel just behind the shift lever. We don't have electrically adjustable headlamps.

this is what the US center stack looks like in my car
http://www.digitex.net/ecarter/msm/aMSM15.html

Top; 6-disc in dash CD player
Middle: HVAC (heater, a/c etc etc..)
Lowest: airbag switch on the left, 12V power/lighter right.
window switches are in the same location by the cupholders, although it looks like you've got an extra narrow pocket or sumthing between the switches and the shifter?

oh, cool u have the Mazdaspeed with turbo, envy (shocked) (10)

Oh, I see, you were starting from the rear of the center hump and working forwards... RX7GSLSE, the flap between the window switches and the shift lever is the ashtray, same as in the US 1999-2000 models.

In 2001+, the ashtray is a removable insert that fits in one of the cupholders.

I'm guessing that the stereo and the gizmo above the stereo on the Norwegian car are aftermarket components.
