Thought I'd post this here for the DIY-ers who change their own oil. I changed the oil today and found that one of the oil cooler lines is being abraded on the front of the oil filter cartridge housing. This is an engine coolant-carrying hose and it has an extra piece of rubber around it (looks like a hose within a hose) to prevent anything bad happening from the hose rubbing on the filter housing. However, on my car this extra rubber does not completely cover the area which contacts the filter cartridge housing. Thus, the coolant hose itself is being abraded. I made an appointment with Mazda to look at it and see what they want to do. It would be simple to fix or otherwise shield the hose from further damage, but I'll let Mazda look at it.
NOTE: The bad thing that will happen once this hose has a hole worn through it is that the engine coolant will be blown all over the underside of the engine, car, and road. Then, the engine will overheat and may well be destroyed. I AM NOT TRYING TO CAUSE A RUCKUS, JUST LET PEOPLE KNOW WHAT I SAW TODAY. Mine may be the only car this is happening on, but the potential for damage is great enough in my estimation that I thought a friendly "heads-up" might be worthwhile for the DIY-ers. Those who have oil changed regularly at the dealer will almost certainly have any trouble found during a regular service before calamity strikes.
