Why do people "subscribe" to threads?

I assume later they use the search to find posts that they posted in? Is that what it's for or does it have a special function?

Thanks.

when you subscribe to a thread(by either posting in the thread, or selecting the "subscribe to this thread" option at the top of the page) it keeps a list of your subscribed threads in your USER CP, so all the threads with new replies are updated and you can see and check out what people are saying.

mostly its just a post whoring tool ;)

While in your user cp, you can go through your subscribed threads and see if there are any updates. Also, by subscribing to them it sends an email notifying you when someone else has posted on that thread. For instance, someone has a problem and you are having simialar problem. Instead of posting "yeah me too" you simply subscribe and then are notified when additions are made.

Another funtion of the subscribe tool is so that we can check for updates on things that are being developed(ie AWR's baffled oilpan) or a group buy that we're a part of. (doughpoke (wedge) ;)

so is the old member search by location. oh yeah, we dont have that anymore......
