From what i can see...I should not have any problem bolting this up to a stock msp turbo manifold. The main thing im concerned about is the 8psi wastegate. Is there another wastegate i could use at a lower psi say 6? Or it that still at bit high for an aftermarket turbo with a stock block? If so, please point me in the right direction.

without going forged, a T28 is going to have to stay at very low boost to not throw a rod. and I would HIGHLY recommend a piggyback tuner (SSAFC).. i've heard that 6psi on a 28 is like 10-12 on a 25... and thats danger zone on these rods.

Im definitely getting a split second fuel controller even before installing the setup, and figured i run it with a msp ecu. But, if it makes this easier...what would be a good turbo somewhere between a t25 and gt28 that i can find a internal wastegate with low psi. Id probably be happier with 5psi honestly. Ive heard something about adjustable wastegates and wastegates from atp..??? The adjustable one is a oem mazda one correct? what about atp?

those are your 2 choices. nothing between. the 25 is plenty of turbo for a 2.0. to make 200 hp and more... what are your goals?

forge also makes an adjustable WGA.

I prefer to stay out of the range of building internals and blowing transmissions as a starting setup. So, id say 200whp is a sweet spot for me. I picked the gt28 because, i hate having to keep upgrading. So i figure it would be as high as i would go. But, I want to stay tuned at a low boost for a year or two until i can afford to have a seperate block on the side. From there, I plan to just do internals in the block and stay 10psi or below. Only because, I care more for longevity of the motor than whp.

I dont plan on racing much at all, i would just enjoy to have more power. Plus naturally aspirated is too much and not worth it to me.

honestly, the only reason to forge, is to go for higher boost... otherwise theres no need. cast rods don't "wear out" faster. My recommendation is this: either plan on going for more boost later on a forged motor and get the 28, or plan on maxing out at bolt ons and 10psi on a T25.

As far as t25s are concerned, any idea of good places to find one?

"Just checked forge wastegates" hmmm...

i would go with a stock or ATP WGA. thats good for 6 or so PSI, but with a FMIC and opened up exhaust you might get as high as 8 out of it... its weird, I know, but my boost went up about a psi when I put in the FMIC. you can get em from MANY stock applications, the DSMs came with em, as well as a number of other turbo cars. buy new, ebay... etc.

Thats is wieird?? Cuz i was planning on a FMIC setup as well but at 6psi. I guess 6-8psi will do on a safe tune.
Good info wagonabacker9
Thanks.

Back to the drawing board i guess...

lol sorry. but, honestly feel free to get more opinions than mine... my car came turbo, so all this work was done for me...

Im definitely open to all opinions! The more the better for me to understand and decide.:D

You have an external wastegate on the obx manifold correct? How long have you been using that setup?

Im not sure if i see if or how to turn the turbo so the outlet on the compressor isnt facing the block if the turbo was mounted. Can this be re-clocked to face upward or downward or at all?

yep...about 10k miles with just the ssafc supermap..wideband will be here today and then i will probably have jdmsam tune it within a week or two

sounds close to the stock T2554R... you might wanna get ahold of someone who knows trims and such real well and have them recommend exactly what to look for based on your plans...

i have a 2003 protege 5 and im also wanting to turbo my car with low psi, the only problem is, i really dont know what im doing when it comes to turbos and stuff so im paying realy close attention to these posts as it will prolly be what i do to mine.
