Tata has announced plans to introduce their highly publicized Nano mini-car in the US by 2011.

The $2,300 Nano features the basic necessities of motoring including an aluminum 2-cylinder 624 cc petrol engine with 33 horsepower, three exterior color choices, and a folding rear seat. Those willing to part with a few dollars more can opt for luxuries such as climate control, assisted braking, and fog lights.

Despite being as bare as an insane alyssum's white padded room, the Nano boasts a Toyota Prius beating 65 miles per gallon.

According to Ratan Tata, "It (the Nano) will need to meet all emission and crash standards and so we hope in the next two years we will be offering such a vehicle in the United States." For the time being, the Nano officially goes on sale in India next month with the first 100,000 owners being selected via a lottery.

Tata is also expected to launch the Nano in Europe in 2011 and is currently studying a variety of alternative powertrains including diesel, biofuel, and electric propulsion.

uhm, 33hp? are you serious? I think some riding mowers have more HP than that.

That being said, paint those headlight housings black and it's actually kinda cute. Alot better looking that the abomination that is the smartcar...

dude... is this for real... im buying one just to have one... it doesnt really look that bad and good for driving to and from the park or mall

i bet these things will be on backorder for a very long time with that price tag

ever seen the chinese car crash tests? that may change your mind. I'd never put my son in one of those chinese POS.

ever see a smart vs a full size.... it doesnt end well. And some people say they get good crash test rattings(braindead

They're so cheap you could get two, park em' in the driveway together, and people could say what a nice pair of Tata's you have.......

Top Gear did an episode where they crashed a smart into a concrete barrier at 70mph...fared pretty well.

yeah, I have no idea how that still looked like a smart either. I have personally seen one vs a 7 series bmw and well the beamer won. the smart didnt survive as well as it did against that brick wall. The smart literally shattered into a million parts!
