I understand that but theres no engine misfire,the light only blinks SEVEN times and stays steady again.Plus it goes away once the engine is turned on.

How do you know there is no engine misfire? The CX-5 has a misfire detector that is 100's of times more sensitive than a driver could ever notice.

The fact that it only displays before the engine is started could indicate a stored code for a previously detected fault. That's why it would be good to read the DTC's with a diagnostic device. If it is a stored code for a previous misfire (could have been due to bad gas, wet ignition, etc.) and the misfire is no longer present, the code will be automatically deleted after 41 drive cycles. A drive cycle is defined as: from engine cold to engine warm = 1 drive cycle.

I have a 13' Touring model with 54,100 miles on it and Ive been having weird issues with the check engine light coming on,first it was a P0882 which I found out came up due to a loose battery cable,I tightened both positive and negative just in case and erased the codes.I drove it for 50 miles and ran perfectly.But when I turn the car to the ON position(engine off) the check engine light appears steady for 10 or so seconds then blinks 7 times and then remains steady again.That happens every time the car is in the ON position(engine off). Once the engine is turned on the light goes away.Could this be the BCM possibly going bad?(All the electronics seem to be working fine though). Or could it be the ECM just relearning its parameters since I disconnected the battery cable.Any input?

Happened to my cat when bought new. It simply means that not all the monitors are set/met. Look at the service manual to know what all the monitors are and under what driving conditions the pcm determines the monitors set.

Battery could be getting weak, supposed to be 2.1 volts per cell = 12.6 volts minimum assuming your meter is calibrated correctly, but the only proper test would be a load test for a proper reading on how much life it has left. Misfire is also entirely plausible at your mileage, could be something electrical (weak battery?) or a fuel injector starting to get clogged. Cars today are highly dependent on electronics, and electronics are highly dependent on proper voltages. If you don't have proper voltages, screwy things happen. Something might have happened while that cable was loose.

I checked it as soon as I turned the car off and it was on 20v setting.I just got the battery like last year.Plus yesterday was about 32 degrees F in NYC.Ill make sure to recheck the voltage soon and also check it while someone turns the engine on to see how much it drops and goes back up again.For the possible misfire,I ordered my Elm blue-tooth obd 2 reader and its going to take about a week or so to come in.So once I scan the whole car Ill definitely share the results.I know I should look for P0300-P0304 codes for the misfire but would there be anything else I should look for?

Here’s something that might help as far as the misfire. A few years ago my stepdaughter’s Pontiac through a misfire code. Did all the usual stuff- swapped coils, wires, etc. to rule out electrical. Decided to try injector cleaner (Techron is my favorite) to clean out a possible clogged injector and it worked. No code thrown for over 2000 miles. I know the manual says no fuel additives so it’s up to you. Just one possibility.

I got the car with 51,700 miles on it last August and have only driven it 2,500 miles until this day.I added Techron about 1,000 miles ago and I didnt really see a difference in fuel economy or anything like that.Would it be ok if I waited until I scan my car for the codes until I put any additive in my vehicle?And Im confused as to how the vehicle will have a code if the check engine light isnt on when the engine is on,the CEL is only on and flashes 7 times then stays steady again when the car is on the on position.How would these codes pop up.Also for some reason I couldnt connect my iphone 4 that I always use for music with bluetooth yesterday,rather I did but it would stop the songs so I deleted the device and tried to connect it again and it would act up,I think its the phone because Ive dropped it so many times and it lags a lot.Im going to try another phone and see how it responds,if not could this be signs of the ECM acting up?My key fob also has the little red light turning on when I press any button,I changed the battery for the key fob last winter,is this normal for these key fobs to go through batteries like this?

Keep in mind, if there is stored code for engine misfire, perhaps from the loose battery cable, it will likely be deleted automatically by the time you get the code reader. 41 drive cycles happens pretty quickly with a car that is used regularly.

Oo I see what you mean.The only code I had from the loose battery cable was a P0882 which was a TCM low signal.I deleted that and I havent had any issues since(before the traction control would turn on and over-ride the gas pedal and I had no power,now its not happening at all everything is running smoothly.)

Just as an update,I recieved my scan tool in the mail and I scanned the car.There were no dtc codes that were stored or any previous codes at all.It says "ECU" ok.

You may want to drive with reader plugged in and pull codes if CEL shows up while driving.
