So I recently bought a 2003 protege 5 and working on getting road worthy and in doing so I replaced all 4 rotors and pads and one rear calipers and just recently noticed that the parking brake needed to be adjusted and tried adjusting it by tightening the nut under the console and in doing so now the parking brake light is on when the parking brake is off and also my brake fluid level is full any idea what might of happen while adjusting that nut and what I can do to get the light off??

sounds like the trigger for the light is off after adjusting that nut, i would consult a manual to find the exact specs for tightening/loosening that nut. there are factory service manuals floating around this forum somewhere and another member maybe able to post a link, i cannot find the, at the moment

...and after cranking that adjusting nut - make sure you don't have a dragging brake. Drive hard and feel the wheels/calipers for a real hot one.

You should not have tried to adjust the parking brake by tightening the nut under the console! Put it back to where it was, so the brake light goes off. The parking brake adjustment is done on the rear calipers themselves, using the allen bolt on the back of each caliper.

You can download a copy of the workshop manual here:

The correct procedure is in Section 04 (Brakes), at the bottom of page 04-11-22:

Well I realize that now that I shouldn't have adjusted it from under the console Haha but I put the nut back to where it was originally and the light is still on

yeah it now sounds like messed up switch and or wiring or a dragging brake on the rear
