Although I've never tried it, spraying a mist of water onto the engine is a method of determining the condition of the ignition wire insulators. A cracked insulation would cause arcing to chassis ground (which includes engine, head, and valve cover, etc) thereby shunting the spark plug(s) from sparking, thus a random misfire occurs and ultimately the ignition wires would have to be replaced.
