Looking for suggestions for a new hand gun for range use, home protection, and very rarely to carry.
In NH that means size is not much of an issue as so long as its not concealed you can carry anything with no permit.
LOVE IT!

I have been leaning toward Glock 17 as I am limited to a $600 price tag

Thoughts?

Sig P226. Deadly, accurate and holds plenty of bullets.
Go to a shop with a range and firing a few different guns to see how the feel and respond.

springfield xd (.40 or .45 acp) for semi auto, or taurus raging bull for revolver. My cousin has several xds, which shoot like a dream. I have a raging bull in .454 casull for my bear gun and love it. Far better than the old ruger super redhawk I used to shoot. Although, in your case, a 44mag would likely be a better, more versatile choice for a revolver.

walther p99...or the sig p226.

i have a glock 23...nice gun, no complaints. i plan on getting the sig and walther at some point.

Earlier this year I picked up a Springfield XDM 9MM with case, 2 magazines, holster, magazine holster, , quick loader, additional backstraps and a lock for $550 from a local shop. If you want to stay below $600, I suggest with an XD/XDM or a Glock.

Best advice I can give you is to go to a local range and try each gun you're thinking about buying. It's a test drive, just like a car.

interesting issue just popped up.
I want the wife to be able to handle this aswell and she is right handed but blind in her right eye.
Are there ambidextrous fire arms?

Also I would love to get a Sig but its just not in the cards at that price.

Go to Glock.com and become a member, it is $35 and you get $100 off your first Glock, well worth it. I would go anything 9mm (nato round will always be around and cheap) or .40 (very available ammo right now with the crunch). If you go any larger cal. or go weird like 10mm or .357 sig you will pay a lot for ammo and have a hard time finding it... XD's are nice if you want high capacity (something I would suggest as they could get outlawed again soon) or Glock 19. The Glock 19 is very common, easy to carry, fairly accurate and you can find any and all accesories for it at any time you want! Smith and Wesson MP line is great and very affordable. If you are going to pay over $600 for a gun then get an HK 9mm USP. There is no better gun in that price range unless you want a 1911 style gun so you can get barrel and trigger work done. For home defense buy a shot gun, not a hand gun.

can you link where on there site to register?
I cant seem to find any links on glock.com

I'd look at a CZ 75 variant. Solid, very reliable from all reports and right in your price range. I'm looking to pick one up soon (the SP-01 Tactical is what I'm looking at FWIW)

CZ, arent those Chinese guns mocked after American made 1911's?

Ok, go to the glock talk section on that link. That is where you can join and get your cert for the discount.

What the hell are you talking about? CZ is Czech Arms. It looks vaguely like a 1911, but isn't really anything like a 1911 (you know, as much as an 18 round double stack gun can look like a 7 round single stack...). FWIW, the CZ 75 is the most widely used firearm in IPSC production class competition. And you know, those guys are all about garbage guns (crazy)

this is the one (or at least one like it) I want to pick up:

EDIT: I forgot, it was the only weapon to pass the last round of NATO handgun certification

EDIT II: Maybe you should edit that "All Knowing" tag you've got there ;)

Dont get your panties in a bunch... No need to get upset. I was confusing CZ with something else is all.

Sorry, low tolerance of ignorance today lol

Craig,

Long time no talk buddy. Check out the used guns at kittery trading post. There are lots of them there to handle and they are super open about answering questions, etc.

If you are looking for home protection maybe you consider a shotgun with a pistol grip so you can still get through the doors without taking your eye off the prize. Mossberg JIC (Just In Case) series can come with an interchangeable stock. If you want to go shoot some skeet you can put on the full stock, stop the intruders with the pistol grip.http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=28

Yeah they are in Maine but they drive them across the border for you and you actually do the deal in an empty office next to a budget rental place....over by the porn stores on the bypass....(peep)

Also, for what it's worth, I do not like the glock's "safe action" trigger, not really double action or single action. Got its own thing going on.

I like the Smith and wesson 4506 which is pretty standard gun. Rubber grips, night sights, 45ACP is what I am looking at. There is one at the post with an extra mag, and a case for $440

If you are looking for inexpensive new firearms maybe checkout the Walthers. 9mm for the lady? Walther p99?
