Need help with key issue on 2012 MX-5

I'm a bit confused with this 2012 Retractable Hardtop I just bought. The dealer had just one fob and it has a permanent key on the steering column. Looking at the glove box and the trunk I see slots for a key. I didn't get a key, should I have a key?

Well, I knew I should have looked at the fob before posting this.
The key is in the fob.

Yes, advanced keyless entry system. The key that's hidden in the fob is backup for if or when the fob battery dies. You can use the key to get into the car and start it. The ignition "key" is just a cover that removes, and the key will slot in like a traditional system.

Yes, there are two buttons on the sides of the cover. Squeeze, and it will pop off.

If your MX only came with one fob, I would suggest that you get a second fob ASAP.

You will be very unhappy if you somehow lose the fob and have to jump through a bunch of hoops and spend money that you wouldn't have had to spend in order to get your car back on the road.
