[Here's the monthly sales report I've been doing, it just adds the historical monthly sales from 2007 to 2010]

North America Mazda released their March 2010 US sales data.

In March 2010 1,615 Mazda5s were sold, down 38.9% from March 2009.

For comparison 11,353 Mazda3s were sold in March.

Here's the data I have gathered from 2007 to the present.

Thanks. You link is bad. I think you have and extra "h".

Only a 5.5% increase over last year. This can't be good news when Kia sales went up 24% and Subaru was up over 40%.

% can be misleading. Aside from Kia who seem to be doubling their sales every 18 months, auto makers who tanked in 08/09 will show big % increases in '10 just by returning to average sales figures. If Mazda did not fall as far as other makers during that time, they will not have big % increases with year by year average growth. IMO

I agree but if you check Mazda sales in 2009 they really did tank... as much as the other manufacturers.

Only Chrysler had a worse month than Mazda in March. Having to use Chrylser and Mazda in the same sentence speaks for itself. The saving grace is that Mazda is doing much better in Europe and Asia. The performance in N.A. has be really enemic at best.

Here is the data from other manufacturers...

Ford also had a terrific month, with March sales 40 percent compared to last year.

General Motors said March vehicle sales rose 21 percent compared with March 2009. GM said sales of its four core brands -- Chevy, Cadillac, GMC and Buick -- rose 43 percent in March.

Chrysler's March sales fell 8 percent compared to last year, as the automaker continues to struggle with its Fiat integration and post-bankruptcy vehicle development.

Other automakers' March results:

-- Honda was up 23 percent overall. Sales of Honda cars were up 13 percent.

-- Nissan was up 43 percent.

-- Subaru continues to build its U.S. market in leaps and bounds, with March sales shooting up 46 percent compared with last year.

-- Hyundai reported record March sales, with a 15 percent improvement over March of last year.

-- Kia reported a record 24 percent March sales hike.

-- Porsche North America sales were up 9 percent.

The current Mazda5 incentive for US customers is $500 cash back plus 0% financing for 36 months.

In February and March of 2009 it was $1,000 cash back plus 0% financing for 36 months, plus 90 days no payments. I bought my Mazda5 in February '09 with no money down, it came out to $18,020 after tax, title, and license, payments are $500.60 for 60 months (41 months left). Sport with manual transmission.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the Mazda5 once the Ford C-Max comes out in late 2011 as a 2012 model. Either sales will increase if the Ford is priced too high and people see value in the Mazda, plus increased category awareness, or they will be outsold by the Ford.

I don't think Mazda has the marketing muscle to compete with Ford. Despite it getting continual positive reviews, most people still do not even know about the Mazda5. As someone else on the board said, "it is the best car that no one knows about." And even in the good months, it only sells around 2500 a month. Most of us love our Mazda5s but in reality, sadly Mazda never positioned this car to be more than a niche vehicle.
