low idle

I have a 2004 Mazda3, with the 2.3L engine. The check engine light came on a few weeks ago. I had it scanned at Autozone, and the code said there was a slight intake leak. I had it reset, and it never came back on.

The idle seems to be a bit low (500-550RPM). The car rattles a little bit at idle. Is this low? Where is a common spot to check for an intake leak?

TIA

Wouldn't the idle be high if there is an air leak in the intake? Does the MS3 have an idle re-learn? That could fix it. I'd go to the stealership and ask their techs to see if there is a idle relearn process you can do on your own. Or ask the ppl here. They're really helpful...

The idle re-learn, as you put it, is the same for all Mazdas.
Disconnect both terminals from the battery.
Depress the brake pedals(this completes a circuit to the brake lights).
Reconnect the terminals. Start.
Every time the ECU loses power (when you radio stations reset :) ), it treats itself as if it's coming off the back of the truck, learning its environment.
This is also helpful if you move to a different altitude.

Do you have the specific code?

Also, double-triple check the oil level. These engines have a history of going low on oil and doing very bad things.
