Where I live (NE Ohio) there are required emissions checks every other year. They are administered via a 24 hour self-service kiosk where you roll up and connect the kiosk to your computer via OBD2.
I did the test, it passed, but immediately afterwards (I moved the car just a few feet) the check engine light and "AT" light came up. I keep a scanner in the car and it said U0073 Control Module Communication Bus Off. When I backed up from the kiosk there was an abrupt "thunk" while moving the car in reverse and it stopped suddenly. I turned the car off and then turned it back on and the lights cleared and I've since driven it normally maybe 50 miles.
What happened? I've used that very same kiosk 4-5 times in the car's lifespan.
