The bottom part of cylinder pops out whenever the key is inserted.
In order to remove the key, I have to press the key inward (push the cylinder in) and turn.
I have never had a car with broken ignition switch.

That's just a cover. Our key requires to be pushed in and turned counter-clockwise to remove it. I think it stops at ACC(essory) unless you push it in and twist backwards.

Wierd, I SWEAR that I have a button that pops out when turning the key from lock to acc. But it looks like your trim is what pops out instead. Was that a change btw 06 & 07?

BTW, this locking function is a Ford thing. They've been forcing the key to remained locked in the cylinder until a button is pressed for ages now.

I've only ever seen a button on vehicles with a manual transmission.

Hmmm.....

That makes SOOOO much sense! (confused)

The only reason for this I can think of is that because the auto requires you to put the car in Park (or Neutral?) before you can remove the key, they felt that a cylinder lock was redundant? Silly either way IMO. Once you've shut the engine off, what's it matter??
