AVG MPG reset tip

I always reset travel odometer and AVG MPG when I fill up.
The initial AVG MPG starts out very low (17mpg) and
after 50 miles climbs to real average. Thats a pain.

I have found if one resets the AVG MPG while rolling faster than 40mph it quickly goes to real average within 5 miles.

Initially a rolling reset shows sky high readings (53mpg) but within 5 miles settles out to normal average (27mpg).

I think there is a bug in the averaging routine when reset is done when stationary.

Depends on what type of driving you're doing. If it's more stop and go than steady state cruise for the first 50 or so miles, it's naturally going to be lower.

If you reset it while stopped, you're traveling 0 miles while the engine is at idle or accelerating from a stop. That's a very small sample size (and a poor one) to calculate overall MPG.
