I was out riding local single track last Thursday, came over a ridge a little too fast and didn't realize the trail turned sharply at the crest. I grabbed some brake but with the suspension unloading and the steep pitch of the descent on the other side I had no control. I over corrected and went over the handlebars to avoid a tree on one side. Would have gotten off with just a bruise on the shoulder but moments later the bike crashed down on my face. 7 stictches above the eye and 4 on the lip. I kind of shrugged it off at the time, but there was quite a bit of blood. My friend escorted me back to the trail head. Glad I had a helmet on, otherwise it would have been much worse.
Just found out an amateur died in Lowell town forest this week riding solo with no helmet. I'd say I was mighty lucky. Anyway, you'll get to see the damage this weekend.
Our camping spot is just before the bus stop underneath the trees. If you have a map, it is C-438. We'll be there Friday mid-day. Give me a buzz: five zero eight 380-2181.
