    5 speed gear oil

Back in the day when I knew something, I believe I read sulphur product gear oil deteriorated the brass components in the synchros. I believe valvoline has a sulphur free product. It's been a while though.

Sadly, traded in the P5 today...

Yup. I've got 234k. Broken motor and no expertise to fix. Too much to pay someone else so selling. I've test drove cars for 2 yrs. nothing comes close. Corners like a vette, but my price. The sad end of an era. All u P5 ers, drive em till u can't. Nothing else out there like it now. :(

    Lower bearing repair

03+ manual P5 150k on motor, lower bearing bad. Does the motor have to be pulled out in order to replace just the lower bearings? If I have to pull the motor, is it more cost-effective to just replace the motor with another used, around $900 with shipping. If I have to do all that, is it...

    How to sell

My 03+ Manual P5 234k is in superior shape EXCEPT, bad lower engine bearing, and bad alternator. Everything else works well, minimal rust, new Dunlope, etc. Alternator replacement easy, but I don't have the mechanical expertise to fix the motor myself. I think it is probably too expensive...

Protege5: Question about Rebuilding Engine (And possibly turbo)

Be careful how long you ride with that tick. I drove about a week with that noise, and I ended up putting a rod through the block. Replaced with a used engine which only lasted a year. So if you know how to rebuild that yourself, good idea. Just Don't wait too long while driving it.

    Clutch issues

You know WAY more about P5's than I. So you probably thought of these already. Worn clutch. Or...... After I replaced clutch, has similar issue. Had to just about push clutch pedal through floor to start and shift. Mechanic readjusted clutch pedal somewhere under dash. After that, plenty...

Whining in 1st gear - even with clutch engaged.

Calvint: since it happens w/ clutch in or out, don't know. Entelligent: used to have the same symptoms w/ a Honda I used to have yrs ago. It was a main shaft bearing in the tranny. Heard when downshift decelerating in 1st. Push clutch in, went away. As it got worse, sound spread to 2nd...

    Looking to purchasing a P5

Engine mounts on our P5's are usually the culprit. The rear most probable, and the biggest PITA if u do yourself, and biggest PITwallet if u pay. Unless others here have more specific concerns, Replace when clutch replacement time comes. As per above, rust is harder to repair than parts...

What causes rust in some P5s but not others?

Of those that I've seen, they all seem to rust in the same locations. As others have mentioned, the amount of rust probably has more to do with the conditions the car has been driven in, the amount of washing and waxing, Undercoating, Etc. I live in Wisconsin, have parked it outside for years...

    Need a motor.

Tweet, install, domo, etc, P5 motors are hard to find and expensive $1200 - $1300 for used w/ lots of miles. Strangely enough, 2002 626 motors are more available and far better price point, $600 - $800 ish. Seems to good to be true. So,,,,,,, before I go ordering one, are there any more...

    Need a motor.

Tweet, install, I'd like an identical swap. So from what you's r saying, 1, 2, 3, protege manual or 626 manual will be identical. Anything else will need adjustments? Probe, mx-6, ??? I understand the newer the better, as they continually made improvements? QUOTE=tweety2300;6121342]There...
