Ok, got an ipod adaptor from a buddy and after pulling the head unit and plugging it in the ipod shows the Mazda wings but that is it. I can not get the headunit to switch over with either the SAT or the MEDIA buttons and the ipod says "ok to disconnect". Is there a syncing process or...

You can mount it any where on the windshield you want. All tests show dominantly that in the middle with clear sight forward and rearward are the best. If you are going to go the route of a radar detector you might as well have it where it works best! Any other way is a roll of the dice and...

This is a joke right? Your radar detector is picking up alarms, not police radar. It needs to look out the front window and also out the rear window. Wherever you are comfortable with it being is fine as long as it has clear veiw forward and backward. Under the dash is highly illadvised!
