Breaking News: US plans to receive Ford Focus RS Canceled

Specifically, within the context of this conversation, I have not seen anyone state or imply that a european car is less safe, simply that different safety standards require different production standards, and this costs money. When I make the point earlier in the thread that different...

Breaking News: US plans to receive Ford Focus RS Canceled

I suppose you could argue that, but I'd argue that since FWD cars tend to be close to the 60/40 weight split where AWD and RWD cars tend to be much closer to neutral balance, some of the weight based handling differences can be considered on a platform vs platform basis rather than a case by...

Breaking News: US plans to receive Ford Focus RS Canceled

I'm not sure why you are getting the idea that identifying a legislated difference in specific standards means thinking one vehicle (or set of standards) is more or less safe than another. I also take issue, to some extent, with the idea that the Big 3 have avoided globalization because it...

Breaking News: US plans to receive Ford Focus RS Canceled

Ahhh... yes there is, young grasshopper! It's not a significant one, but it's there, and it's mostly based around weight balance. The engine configurations, transmission orientations/designs and the presence/absence of a rear differential makes significant weight balance differences between the...

Breaking News: US plans to receive Ford Focus RS Canceled

It sounds almost like someone needs a lesson in potential front end grip between FWD and RWD platforms. Specifically, the differences under acceleration, under breaking, and under turning. Someone should also learn about the circle of grip and consider how it may apply to various platforms under...

Breaking News: US plans to receive Ford Focus RS Canceled

You sound terribly offended with everything you write, from "Do you even live here man?" to "you just don't understand what it's like". Oh, what we think we know. Yup, that doesn't sound aggressive/dismissive/offended at all. This may come as a shock to you but having lived in a country does not...

Car pigs up when A/C on?

I've read in various places that the A/C unit represents maybe a 5 to 10 HP loss on the motor. To put that in perspective, this 1/4 mile ET calculator figures a loss of 10 flywheel HP costs you maybe 2/10ths in the quarter. I don't think that's really something your butt dyno can pick out.

Car pigs up when A/C on?

The A/C compressor is a really minor load on the motor. You might lose a few horsepower ( maybe 5 or 10 ), but you can't feel the difference such a small drop really makes. If you've ever turned on your defrosters you've had the A/C unit on, for example. Turbo cars are very tempermental with...

Where are you pulling that 98% number from? I shift smoothly in this car all the time. I also have bad days where I don't. More bad days than I do in my other comparatively soft Mazda3, but that's what happens when you have a clutch that is more of a light switch than it is progressive. It's...

The end of high powered cars?

Sort of. The 4 cylinder motors Honda puts together are "high performance" engines in that they are very efficient at getting the most energy possible out of the fuel it burns and converting into mechanical energy. They don't produce a lot of power, but they are efficient with their fuel. Where...

The end of high powered cars?

People like leather seats and better speakers and air conditioning and electric motors for their windows and mirrors and rain sensors and sound proofing and nice soft feeling plastics and ergonomic 6-way adjustable seats and telescoping height adjustable steering wheels and traction control and...

"Spin" or tires slip? I've had the tires scrabble for traction without the lights coming on and the TCS kicking in, but that is very, very close to the grip threshold of the nannies kicking in. I've also been at that point and had the lights blink and the TCS close the throttle plate, for that...
