Update: I contacted my local dealer Monday, stopped in early Tuesday morning so the Service Manager could have a look at it. Now I have to wait for the Mazda rep to come look at it. In the mean time, I stopped at the hardware store and got some s.s. fasteners and 3m foam tape to back the plate...

Mass Airflow Sensor - Inline on you intake pipe. Relays data to car computer for proper air/fuel ratios. Look around, make sure everything is plugged in, check all fuses. Turn key to Accessory postion and listen for fuel pump.
