ive been reading around and everyone says replacing hte downpipe first is the best way to go. if that is true why does the FAQ EXHAUST THREAD disagree completely with this:

Based on dyno results, and my personal experience, the midpipe will yield the biggest gains

I want to get a catback and a midpipe or a catback and a downpipe, so if anyone could fill me in on which would yield greater results.
thanks

so do you completely understand what each piece of the exhaust is?

*turbo* --> *downpipe* (aka S-Pipe/J-Pipe) --> *midpipe* (catted section) --> *catback*

replacing the downpipe and not the midpipe is completely not gonna help at all.

minimal gains can be had from replacing the catback. significant gains can be found by doing any of the three:
1) replace midpipe - http://www.apexr1.com/apmado.html or http://**************************.com/cart/product_info.php?cPath=23_116&products_id=199 - and leave the stock catback
2) replace both the midpipe and catback - www.corksport.com has the Power Series Exhaust
3) replace midpipe, catback, and downpipe - http://**************************.com/cart/product_info.php?cPath=23_116&products_id=210

im gonna do more than replace the catback. i was gonna do the catback along with either the midpipe or the downpipe.

the apex downpipe is called downpipe but it replaces only the j pipe and catalitic converter part.

I guess it could be called jmidpipe.

i think that would sound deep and aggressive, and yield a very good performance gain.

if/when you do get that setup, def. post some clips.

for sure... i'm just waiting to see if MAM ever does a GB with his pipes! but i found a Greddy SP2 for a good price, waiting on the vendor to get me his shipping price.

i know that casopolis was selling his greddy sp2 for 350 (shipped?). PM him and see if its still available.

It's just different wording. Everyone agrees you should replace the section that has the cats. Some people refer to this as the downpipe(for example if it includes the j part like corksport i think, or includes both j and s parts like GHL).
