I have a, i think zero gauge wire run through my car now. But changing up my system my new amp only needs an 8. Can i still use my zero and just fit it into the hole?

Cleanest thing to do would be to pick up a fused distribution block and a short length of the heaviest wire that the amp manufacturer recommends.
The 0 ga should fit nicely and so will the lighter ga that goes to the amp. Plus you get a nice convenient place to cut power to the amp if you need to work on it. It also makes a handy tapping point if you add other devices that need a full time battery source.
