Transmission question

I had the transmission on my 2003 MSP go out and I need to replace it. Does anyone have a list of what transmissions I can use to replace it? I read some place that any of the 2.0L 5 speed transmissions from 2001-2003 regular protege will fit. Can anyone confirm this is true or not and if someone could help me locate either the MSP transmission or a compatible one it wold be much appreciated.

There were small revisions to the trans over the years so the 'best' one to get is from an 03 model but they are all basically the same except for the Speedo gear and the limited slip differential which you can swap into the new trans.

When pulling the transmission out, do I have to pull the joint shaft out? Or can I get away with just pulling the drive shaft only?
