My car had new Toyo Proxes 4's on when I got it. They wore out fast and in the snow they were awful. My 05 Mustang GT w/ Pirelli snowsport tires was 1000x better in the snow despite 300hp & rear drive. If you have significant snowfall, get some winter tires and save up for good summer tires come springtime. You'll be MUCH safer and your tires will last 2x as long.

Maybe he meant 205/50???

To the OP, yes 205/50 will work fine and you can also fit 205/45 on the stock wheels. These two sizes will give you many more choices to choose from.

thanks for all the info. i think i'm going to see what i can do about finding a set of steel wheels at a junk yard and just buy snow tires for the winter and save for decent tires in the spring.

Great call! You could probably find a cheap set of stock takeoffs here, on craigslist, or ebay. Snow tires are fun!
