Sign of dirt/leak on Mazda CX-5 2013 SkyActiv 2.0L engine next to drive belt

Hi all,

I am new to the group and still learning to DIY my mazda CX5 2013 2.0.

Few days ago I did an inspection and found suspicious sign of dirt/leak on Mazda CX5 2013 Kyactive 2.0 engine next to drive belt and on the OCV as attached pictures.

What would you reckon as causes for them and how to fix?

Thanks!

Your OCV doesn't look too bad, however, it could be due to the dust making it look dry.

OCV oil seepage seems to be a SkyActiv engine feature. When I've had this diagnosed by my local Mazda dealer, they blame the seepage on a hardened rubber gasket.
There are a few threads on this issue on this forum, so have a look via search and see what you find.

I've had numerous Mazdas and they've all done this.
Dealer says fix is it to replace entire valve cover as the OCV gasket isn't a serviceable part on its own any longer.

My current 2022 CX5 has a wet valve cover all around the OCV due to oil seepage. I've started cleaning it every now and then to keep it at bay. Decided to avoid the valve cover replacement as the car is due for replacement this year. It's pretty minor at this point but if it does become worse, I will get the work done via warranty.

best of luck!

A bit difficult to tell if it's from the cover or not, but it could also be the belt tensioner. They tend to leak when they are failing. If it is that, the good news is it's a fairly inexpensive part and a fairly easy DIY replacement.
