Mazda 2002 Protege
Hi everyone! I have a 2002 protege and need to replace the cigarette lighter. Can anyone give me advice on how to remove the central console (I think that's what it's called) so I can access the lighter? I tried unscrewing the screws on the side (near the brakes) and the ones near the seat, but it's still stuck in there pretty good and I'm not sure how much force it takes to pull it out. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

First go here:
http://www.mazdaspd.com/manuals.html

Scroll down to the lower right section titled Body and Accessories 09

Then go to section 09-17 Interior Trim and open that link
Go to page 09-17-5 Console Removal and do that procedure to remove the whole center console
Then go back to that index site and open section 09-20 Entertainment
Go to page 09-20-8 and follow the cigarette lighter procedure

If it's like mine, there's two screws on the back by the front seats. Two on the front by the footwells, and if I'm not mistaken there are two more after you remove the trim around the e-brake and shifter. Then it should just lift up after you get it unhooked from the anchors in the front. The real pain is getting them to line up again.
