Hey new to the forum, just bought a 07 mazda 3, stick, 50,000kms. Just took it out for a boot, jumped on it in fifth annnnnnnnnnd nothin. No jump in rpms or speed. WTF? It accelerates and the rpm go up, slowly. Wondering if their is some "safety" thing on it or whats going on. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

mazda 3? First problem, you're in the mazdaspeed section.
Second problem, 5th gear in a car with 160hp, what the hell are you expecting? Even if you were in the meat of the powerband in 5th gear (you'd have to be doing highway speeds to be in the meat of the powerband in 5th), it's only 160hp. It's not a rocket.

This thread is a joke, right? Your car should stall out if you try and start out in 5th.

Im pretty sure he didnt start in fifth, I think he meant that was when he decided to "jump" on it. Like chimmike said, its a Mazda 3 not a Dodge Viper, you wont see much difference in performance if you are trying to accelerate in fifth.

He didn't "start out" in fifth gear... He was in fifth gear, depressed the accelerator to WOT, and was let down when his low horsepower/torque motor didn't provide the torque he unrealistically expected.
