Replied to your PM. All North American cars 89 and newer have the MIL on the dash so it's easy to check for codes. I did it a number of times on my old 89. I guess Europe was still using the older 86-88 system in 1990. I sent you a link to a site that explains a DIY diagnostic tool. My 86 has never run and won't ever use the stock ECU system so I've never tried.
